FERMA will launch a major report on travel risks “Workers on the Move: managing new risks” at the 2017 FERMA Forum. FERMA board member Charlotte Hedemark will lead a discussion of the findings of the report, produced in partnership with International SOS, in the session: Protecting human capital, your most important asset.

Business travel is continuing to grow and the mobile workforce is becoming more diverse. “The report will show how important cross-border business is for companies today, so   travel is a strategic responsibility for the risk manager. It is a question of understanding how the travel programme supports the company’s strategy, and ensuring that the risks are acknowledged and managed so the travellers can contribute to those objectives,” explains Charlotte.

The report includes the result of a survey by FERMA of nearly 400 risk managers on changing travel risks for mobile workers, interviews with four large quoted companies and a major European law firm, guidelines on best practices and a review of new solutions.

As Charlotte explains: “Each company has its own way of managing travel risks. The risk manager may or may not have an operational role. However, it is a strategic responsibility to see that there is good risk management practice, for example, that there is good cooperation between security and functions like HR, communications and insurance, and that travel risks are on the risk register.”
